Tron founder Justin Sun has extended a job offer to Gary Gensler, the current chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This proposal was made public through a recent post on X, where Sun stated he would hire Gensler if he could approach the crypto industry with genuine sincerity.

A Surprising Invitation

Sun's unexpected job offer comes amid a wave of optimism in the crypto community following Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Since his previous presidency, Trump has emerged as a strong supporter of cryptocurrencies, vowing to dismiss Gensler on his first day back in office. Gensler has faced criticism for his enforcement-heavy approach, which has led to over 100 actions against various crypto firms, including recent Wells notices targeting companies like Immutable (IMX).

SEC's Enforcement Actions

The SEC has ramped up its enforcement actions, collecting over $7 billion in fines from crypto firms as of September 2024. This increase in penalties, which surged by 3,000% this year alone, has created significant tension between the crypto sector and the regulatory body. In response, the crypto community has mobilized politically, successfully electing more than 260 pro-crypto legislators.

Gensler's Future in Question

With Trump's previous comments about Gensler and the influx of crypto-friendly lawmakers in Congress, speculation is growing about the SEC chair's future. Although Gensler's tenure, confirmed in April 2021, lasts until 2026, there are calls for his resignation from figures like Senator Warren Davidson, who cites a “long series of abuses” under Gensler's leadership.
